Craik was chief physician and surgeon of the Army, 1781-1783; Brown was in command of the U.S. Army, 1821-1828 and its senior officer from 1815; "Dr. Murray" probably refers to James Murray, who was "Hospital surgeon at 'Medical Shop' Annapolis, 1780-82." (cf. Cordell, E.F., Medical annals of Md., 1903. p. 515.)
